The Institute for Housing and Urban Development Studies (IHS) is a cooperative institute of the Erasmus School of Economics and the Faculty of Social Sciences of Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR). Since its foundation in 1958, IHS has grown to be a leading research centre in the field of urban management and development.
IHS utilises its extensive experience in applied knowledge in urban management and development to assist individuals, organisations and cities to find practical and relevant solutions to issues faced in cities and by urban professionals.
Together with its partner universities across the world, and especially with over 8.000 alumni from more than 140 nations, IHS has built a strong international network of professionals in the field of urban development and governance.
The institute offers a postgraduate programme (Master and PhD), as well as training, advisory services and applied research. With over 45 nationalities represented in its student and staff population, IHS operates on a highly international scale.
