Marcel Boumans (1960) is Associate Professor History and Methodology of Economics at the Erasmus Institute for Philosophy and Economics (EIPE) of Eramus University Rotterdam and at the Department of Economics of the University of Amsterdam.

Marcel Boumans obtained his MSc in Mathematics at Delft University of Technology in 1988 and his PhD degree in Economics at the University of Amsterdam in 1992.

His main research area is the History and Philosophy of Science applied to Social Science, in particular Economics and Econometrics. His topics of research include: Models, Measurement, Mathematization, and Methodology of Empirical Research Outside the Laboratory.
