M.J. (Jose) Nederhand

José Nederhand is a PhD Researcher at the Department of Public Administration and Sociology at Erasmus University Rotterdam. Her main research interests are public sector innovation, co-production and community self-organization.

Her research focuses on the transformation of modern welfare states. Particularly, she studies the changing roles of local governments and self-organizing care collectives by adopting a mixed-method approach. Supervisors of the research project are Prof. Dr. Erik Hans Klijn and Prof. Dr. Martijn van der Steen.

Her work has been published in renowned public administration journals, such as Public Management Review, Policy & Politics and Administration & Society. Furthermore, she has received various awards for her work, such as the Osborne Best Paper Award and the Prof. H.W. Lambersprijs.

Next to her work as at Erasmus University Rotterdam, she is also involved as a researcher in the Nederlandse School voor Openbaar Bestuur (NSOB) in the Hague: the country's premier provider of public sector executive education and an independent center of applied research, critical thought and strategic advice about politics and governance.

She holds a Master's degree in Public Administration and a Research Master's degree in Media Studies from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
