Short report on second edition 'Conversations with the Dean': 'Focus Group Research – methodological issues’.

On 26 January there was a second session in the series Conversation with the Dean. The subject of this session was ‘Focus Group Research – methodological issues’.

ESHCC dean Martine van Selm and the participating PhD candidates reflected on methodological topics when working with the focus group method. Topics of reflection were research design, sampling, instrument development, analysis, reporting, and more.

More in particular we discussed why choosing the focus group as a research method at all; how to sample in focus group research; what do we know about various focusing techniques; how to structure components of the focus group tool; how to analyze and present focus group data and what about focus group research in an online setting?

The participating PhD candidates could relate to their own research projects, which made the discussions lively and instructive.
