In retrospect | A look back at the first edition of the "Dean's Master Class"

Friday June 13th, the Graduate School organised the first edition of the Dean's Master Class. The first session focused on the research theme 'Families'. PhD students from all four affiliated faculties were present, underlining our mission to nurture an active PhD community and promoting a fruitful exchange of ideas across disciplines.

During the opening session four leading scholars from Erasmus University Rotterdam (EUR) presented their research on the theme 'Families': <link people pearl-dykstra>prof. dr. Speed dating and proposal pitches

The presentations were followed by a ‘speed dating style’ question round where assigned teams of PhD students questioned the scholars on their presentations and their research focus.  Subsequently, the students were given the opportunity to work on ideas for a research proposal which they would post on flip overs.

The final session of the Master Class consisted of the students grouping around ideas they liked to work out into a research proposal they could pitch to the jurors. After careful deliberation, PhD students <link people m-p-b-van-den-broek>Thijs van den Broek, <link people s-m-r-driessen>Simone Driessen, <link people j-l-d-neys>Joyce Neys (proposal pitcher) and <link people wouter-quite>Wouter Quite were awarded the Dean’s Award for Multidisciplinary Excellence (DAME) for the most creative and feasible proposal. Next edition

The next edition of the the Dean’s Master Class will be held in October. We will notify PhD students on the exact date through our newsletter. We are currently working on a new theme.
