Call IHS-FSW-ESE Research Programme "Dealing with Urbanization Challenges"
In total a sum of 2 million euro is available: 1 million for each mother faculty (FSW / ESE) for a period of 5 years, 2014-2018. This makes it possible to develop 4 PhD/Post-Doc research projects for each mother faculty. Per project proposal, PhD or Post-Doc, a maximum of 250.000 euro is available.
Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies
The faculty of Social Sciences is (together with the faculty of ESE) mother faculty of IHS, the Institute of Housing and Urban Development Studies. IHS is an international centre of excellence associated with Erasmus University Rotterdam and operating on a global scale that offers specialized post graduate education, training, advisory services and applied scientific research in the fields of urban management, housing and urban environment with the mission to develop human and institutional capacities to reduce poverty and improve the quality of life in cities.
The quality of life is, however, challenged through growing urbanization. Urbanization will increase from 50 percent to 70 percent the coming two decades, especially in Asia and Africa. This will create opportunities but also challenges in urban areas all around the world. The research program is focused on identifying and dealing with these challenges from a social science and economic point of view.
About the call
In order to further developing its academic base for education and advisory work, IHS sees important advantages in strengthening the relationship with the two mother faculties. Therefore IHS has decided to further stimulate the relationship by investing the IHS dividend revenues in developing projects for PhD and Post-Doctoral research.
