In this four-day course PhD candidates will be introduced to the requirements of different types of academic publishing: 1) the relevance of bibliometric measures and impact scores; 2) identify journals that are possibly relevant outlets, and; 3) develop a publication strategy for their own PhD trajectory.

Making an academic poster that stands out

How do you design an academic poster, and, most importantly, how do you make it stand out from the crowd? In this two-day course, you will learn about the fundamentals of effective writing, graphic design and how to design your own poster with minimal effort.

Writing is often a struggle for researchers, particularly beginning scholars. In this workshop, participants practice applying the so-called Pomodoro technique as a way of making writing more focused, more instrumental and, eventually, more fun. The workshop consists of an introduction to and a group discussion about the Pomodoro technique (15%); writing exercises which employ the technique (75%), and finally; a reflection on the experienced advantages and challenges of the technique (10%).
